May’s Roundhouse Rising Presents will see performances from Gabrielle Sey, Sunflower Thieves and IORA. Hear the best in fresh music!

South London-born singer/songwriter Gabrielle Sey describes her sound “like a round trip from London to Accra with a stop-off at a Cali Sunday Service”. She has gained attention from the likes of, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Fresh on the Net, Gal-Dem and AFROPUNK. Richly rhythmic, lyrically lead and soulfully infused, Sey draws from her Ghanaian heritage to craft a distinctive sound true to her roots. Sey’s artistry is incomplete without her signature performative flair; a characteristic of her music that can only be appreciated at her live shows. These shows have taken place in some of London’s renowned underground venues including Spice of Life, The Borderline, The Camden Assembly, The Green Note and many more.

Dream-folk duo, Sunflower Thieves, are a strong soulful sisterhood, nurturing a sound through ethereal vocal harmonies and honest lyrics to soothe the mind. Long-time friends Amy Illingworth and Lily Sturt-Bolshaw explore themes of friendship, isolation, confusion and love in their music. Rooted in authenticity, the duo have grown organically with a DIY work ethic; starting with performances at open-mic nights and BBC Introducing Sessions, to having been included in Glastonbury’s ‘Emerging Talent’ longlist for 2020. In 2022, the band gained further ground with their track, ‘I Don’t Know Why’ being played on BBC Radio 1’s Chillest Show.

Manchester-based artist IORA makes alternative electropop, a combination of vocal and instrumental harmonies, married with electronic samples and sounds, intriguing the audience with its originality. A Roundhouse Resident Artist alumnus, IORA has big plans for 2022, her EP “How did we get here?” (supported by the PRS Open fund) will be released in May 2022. IORA’s collaboration, ‘Waiting’, received support from Radio 1’s BBC Introducing with Gemma Bradley and the Chillest Show with Sian Eleri. Her latest release ‘Animal’ received support from BBC Introducing North West and played on the Live Lounge Special show. * IORA’s* music started with her passion for singing, storytelling and performing.
