London eight-piece KOKOROKO bring their soul-shaking blend of neo jazz and Afrobeat to In the Round.
With a name that means ‘Be Strong’ in the Nigerian language Orobo, the band are making waves for their spin on Afrobeat music and their raucous, horn-fueled live performances. Their sound is inspired by Afrobeat heavyweights such as Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor and Tony Allen.
Led by London-based trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, the seismic horn section is made up of (Maurice Grey, saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi, trombonist Richie Seivwright), guitar (Oscar Jerome), keys (Yohan Kebede), drums (Ayo Salawu) and percussion (Onome Edgeworth).
The evening will see support from Mrisi and Roundhouse Resident Weyland McKenzie.
Our yearlong Resident Artists Programme facilitates the artistic development of outstanding emerging artists as they transition into the creative industries. Each year we recruit artists in Music, Circus and Performing Arts.

Alongside training and mentoring, the programme provides opportunities to perform on incredible stages within the Roundhouse and across a wide variety of platforms beyond our walls.
