Poetry Collective

The Roundhouse Poetry Collective is made up of 15 gifted poets from across London, aged between 18-25yrs. They get together once a week to develop original material under the guidance of celebrated beat poet Polarbear.

They perform extensively throughout London, at poetry events such as Tongue Fu, JawDance, Bang said the Gun, as well as doing regular performances here at the Roundhouse.

Talking Doorsteps

A series of performances in unexpected places from The Roundhouse Poetry Collective

Sunday afternoons are about to get even better! Throughout August the Roundhouse Poetry Collective will be bringing their wonderfully witty words to some of London’s most bizarre and beautiful doorsteps. From bustling markets to hidden backstreets, these poets are about to make you see the city in a very different light.

The Clockhouse, Brick Lane - 7 Aug 2011

18 Well Walk, NW3 - 14 Aug 2011

50 Bankside, SE1 - 21 Aug

Camden Lock, NW1

In August they developed a piece in collaboration with our in house Jazz Ensemble: Jazzphonica, which was showcased at The Vortex and Whitechapel Gallery. They have also performed at festivals such as Big Chill and Camp Bestival, as well as developing a piece for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The collective are going from strength to strength as they continue to push the boundaries of conventional forms of poetry and spoken word.

The Poetry Collective have been playing around in the EMI studio... here are some highlights:

Members of the collective also make regular appearances at these events:

Tongue Fu “an event with a different approach to poetry. They have an amazingly talented house band (double bass, drums and keys) - who accompany the poets, adding atmosphere, pace and funk. They have constructed an amazing line-up, worthy, in my opinion, of far more than the £5 ticket fee” richmix.org.uk

Bang Said the Gun “Stand up poetry for those people who don’t like poetry, especially the stuff about thwarted love  and daffodils. However, if underpants, sex, gravy and Keith Moon giving the queen drumming lessons  is your thing, then this could be the verbal romp you’ve been waiting for” bangsaidthegun.com

What people have said about the Collective

“This talented bunch of young performers show the old folk how it should be done – the real stars of tomorrow. No joke, come and see.” Dan Cockrill, Founder, Bang Said The Gun

“When artists are excited, energetic, open and really talented it's inspiring. When those same artists collaborate as a collective and strive to push each other and themselves it's just plain amazing. Roundhouse Collective are easily the most exciting group of writer performers I've ever come across. Bar none.”  Polarbear, Spoken Word Performer and Theatre Maker

"We have been featuring artists from the Roundhouse Poetry Collective at every Tongue Fu for a while now and without exception they always deliver, both as writers and performers. Definitely the place to look for the most exciting young talent bubbling up in London.

I have worked with the Roundhouse Poetry Collective for over a year, and intend to do so for as long as the group is thriving... I am consistently amazed by the poets; not only is the Roundhouse producing some of the hottest spoken word talents in the world today, but the hothouse which has been created, and the egoless way in which the group supports each other and challenges each other to rise to new heights, is no less than inspiring" Shane Solanki, Tongue Fu

Last year's Poetry Collective have become this year's Roundhouse Associate Poets, and go by the name of Rubix. This new collective are developing a range of innovative spoken word material which will be showcased throughout 2011. More information.
