Project dates: 2011 – present (ongoing)

Project Overview
Talking Doorsteps is a spoken word exchange project that explores the idea of “home” by connecting young poets and filmmakers from across the globe, and sharing their work digitally with audiences worldwide.

Emerging British artists who have been trained by Roundhouse, travel abroad to lead workshops and share experiences with youth arts organisations in other countries. At a later stage, several workshop participants travel back to the UK to take part in further collaborative work. They build lasting connections and gain new techniques and ideas, which they then share with peers back home.

Countries: Lebanon, South Africa, Bulgaria, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates, Honduras and the UK

Partner Organisations: El Yafta, Word N Sound, Slip, National Theatre Wales, New Vision, Boca Literature Festival, 2 Cent Movement, Pen International, Backyard Poetry, English Pen

Funders: British Council

At the end of the week I spent in London, I felt I had found a group of people who understood what it meant to dream, be positive and platform young people’s voices
