Step into the future of creativity with XR Creators’ Studio: Build Your Own Universe – a hands-on workshop where you’ll design and build your own immersive world using virtual and mixed reality acquiring essential future design skills along the way.
XR (Extended Reality) is the umbrella term for technologies that seamlessly blend the real and digital, covering everything from fully virtual environments (VR) to mixed reality (MR) spaces that overlay digital content onto the physical world.
Across the day, you’ll be onboarded with core future design and creative skills by getting hands-on with powerful creation tools, including:
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own “Space of the Future,” a personal mini-project combining 3D sculpting, environment design, and mixed-reality interaction.
You’ll leave with practical, future-ready skills and a clear understanding of how to continue experimenting with XR tools at home, positioning yourself at the forefront of digital creation and innovation.
Barry Haughey (Hawkie) is an experienced multidisciplinary artist and educator with over 20 years of practice across creative and educational sectors. Specialising in emerging and immersive technologies, he has led innovative programmes in the EU, UK and US that integrate Virtual Reality (VR), digital arts, and creative learning. Barry is committed to empowering individuals and organisations to explore new frontiers of engagement, combining artistic practice with cutting-edge digital tools to create dynamic, inclusive, and future-focused learning experiences.
No experience with VR or XR is needed! This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone curious to explore immersive technology and start creating in virtual worlds.
The workshop is supervised by Roundhouse staff and the lead facilitator to ensure a safe, supportive environment. Participants must be 18–25 and in good general health; anyone with conditions affecting screen time (e.g., epilepsy, motion sensitivity, severe anxiety) should consult a GP. Regular breaks are built in to promote rest, hydration, and reflection.
