Learn and develop your skills in in writing for the stage with award-winning playwright and Roundhouse Ambassador, Lolita Chakrabarti OBE.
In this talk, Lolita will share her expertise on how to transform a source text, such as a novel, into a compelling script for the stage. Drawing on her extensive experience, including her Olivier Award-winning adaptation of Life of Pi and her critically acclaimed adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet, Lolita will offer invaluable insights into the creative process.

The talk will be in an interview format and you’ll get a chance to ask your own questions at the end. The session will conclude with networking opportunities and light refreshments.

Whether you’re just starting your writing journey or looking to refine your craft, this talk will provide practical guidance and inspiration.

About Lolita Chakrabarti OBE

Lolita Chakrabarti OBE is an actress and award-winning playwright. She trained at RADA and has worked on stage and screen for over thirty years. Her acting credits include The Hunt (St Ann’s Warehouse, NY), Hamlet at RADA opposite Tom Hiddleston, Last Seen – Joy (Almeida Theatre), Screw (CH4), Vigil, Showtrial (BBC1), Wheel of Time (Amazon), and Criminal (Netflix).

As a writer, Lolita adapted the Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi, winning the Olivier Award for Best Play. The production ran in the West End, Boston, and Broadway, earning multiple Olivier, Tony, and UK Theatre Awards. Her debut play Red Velvet received critical acclaim, won multiple awards, transferred internationally, and is now part of the A-level syllabus. She also adapted Hamnet for the RSC and West End, and curated The Greatest Wealth at the Old Vic.

Do I need any particular skills or experience to take part?

No previous skills or experience required. This talk will be aimed at 18-25 year old artists in the early stages of their writing career, but anyone within this age group who is interested is welcome to attend
