Imagine this right: You’re at a discussion group about protest and you get arrested by the Met Police. You’ve been arrested for supposedly conspiring with a group of other young people to cause a public nuisance. They’ve taken all your stuff, including your love-poems–some more embarrassing than others–as evidence. Then suddenly, you’re living in limbo, on bail, wading through layers of bureaucracy and wild conditions. You’re watching friends getting arrested through a phone screen, day after day, as their voices continue to go unheard by those in power. And through all this I’m…I mean you’re…trying not to sound like a tinfoil-hat wearer at work, telling customers that it goes all the way to the top! All you can think about is what that policeman is doing with your poems… plagiarising them at a slam…reading them as his bedtime story…don’t even want to think about what he’s doing with the sexier bits! Sounds ridiculous. Sounds chaotic. Sounds like a right nuisance!

Nuisance is Rosie Robertson’s debut play blending protest, folklore, science, and politics through dance, music and theatre.
