Roundhouse Rising
by Kate Ireland
Kate Ireland is bringing her debut poet collection, Adaptive Strategies for a Sensitive System, to life on stage. Bringing together sound design, immersive visuals, physical theatre and spoken word, this is a performance that explores being a sensitive soul in an age of optimisation and acceleration.
In a culture inundated with prescriptive language, quick fixes and self-surveillance, how do we find a space for tenderness amongst the noise? Adaptive Strategies for a Sensitive System is a lovingly disordered field guide for surviving a world that keeps turning up the brightness.
From violent mornings to dreich late nights, Kate sifts through bedrooms, public transport, supermarkets, her Gran’s house, the surveillance-era optimism of mindfulness apps, and the wild terrain of her own mind- finding space for the personal in the political and build a space for connection in a disconnected era.
