Sir Torquil Norman CBE was the Founder of the Roundhouse. Businessman, Toymaker, Entrepreneur, Pilot, Philanthropist, Torquil lived a hugely colourful life and touched the lives of so many people. Torquil died on 29th March 2025.
With his wife Anne, he set up the Norman Trust to support young people and bought the iconic but dilapidated Roundhouse in 1996, both to save this iconic building and to house a creative centre for young people. After raising £32m, the Roundhouse re-opened in 2006. Without Torquil, the Roundhouse would not exist as it does today and over 100,000 young people would have missed out on transformative creative opportunities.
To honour this remarkable man, the Roundhouse have partnered with the Norman family to establish a special fund to continue his commitment to supporting young people on their creative journey. It also honours the amazing support he received from partners, collaborators, friends, and family, especially Anne Norman and Iga Downing.
The Torquil Norman Fund will create an annual award for young people to enable them to extend their work and practice, establishing themselves in the creative industries and wider cultural community. The Fund will make several life-changing awards per year with the aim of transforming many young lives over years to come.
Our overall goal is to raise £100,000 to support the awards and inspire the next generation of young musicians, poets, performers, writers and producers. The Norman Trust has committed to matching every donation made to that target.
Please do support our fund.
