Acclaimed producer, DJ and BBC 6 Music host SHERELLE has successfully teamed up with the Roundhouse to offer four talented young musicians a life-changing opportunity at the biggest headline show she has ever done.
DJs Tensive, Somtolicious, Joe Anthony and Saz all enjoyed a huge breakthrough, playing as support for SHERELLELAND at the Roundhouse on Friday 11 April – a pinnacle moment in SHERELLE’s own glittering career to date.
Having made a surprise visit to one of the Roundhouse’s weekly DJ drop-in sessions for 18-25 year-olds in February, SHERELLE and the iconic Camden venue and leading creative youth charity came together to provide those in attendance with the ultimate boost.
Asked to submit mixes for the chance to potentially be a support act at SHERELLELAND – Tensive, Somtolicious, Joe Anthony and Saz were all selected by SHERELLE to showcase their skills across the night.
Part of the brand-new Roundhouse Three Sixty festival, SHERELLELAND was a celebration of the history and future of club culture and also included sets from Sexy Lady Massive, MC GQ, Demolition Squad and Rupture (DJ Flight & Double O).
SHERELLE said: “The Roundhouse youth programme is super important for young people at the moment because there aren’t many initiatives that are able to facilitate so many different people but also give them the time to learn how to do something. The collaboration between myself and the Roundhouse of offering slots for the SHERELLELAND show is important because you are trying to give someone a leg up. It was the biggest show I have ever done and it is nice to share that experience with those so early in their careers. Opportunities are important.”
Tensive said: “To be selected for a big opportunity in the beginning of my career really gave me a boost of confidence. The whole process was so fun, and DJing at the Bar and Cafe was the perfect setting for my first ever performance. I can’t thank the team at the Roundhouse enough for the opportunity, for providing an affordable space for me to improve my skills, and to the producers and the rest of the team for being so kind and helpful.”
Joe Anthony said: “Getting the chance to open at SHERELLELAND was an amazing experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Sherelle and everyone else involved were incredibly supportive, and I’m ever so grateful to have been given such a great opportunity!”
Somtolicious said: “The opportunity to DJ at SHERELLELAND was such a defining moment in my DJ career! The energy in the room was unparalleled, and it was an absolute privilege to share the joy of music with such amazing people.”
The Roundhouse is the UK’s leading independent creative powerhouse – combining unique live performances like SHERELLELAND with creative opportunities for over 10,000 young people each year.
SHERELLELAND was part of the line-up for the brand new Roundhouse Three Sixty festival – an epic month-long mix of music, spoken word, theatre, visual arts, podcasts and club nights, with each event amplifying the voices of today’s most vital and unapologetic artists and Roundhouse young creatives.
