Creativity should be integral to every young person’s life.

The Young Creatives Commission is a national commission led by the Roundhouse in partnership with the Centre for Young Lives.

We know that young people’s lives are enriched when they have access to high-quality, affordable creative opportunities. Participation in the arts supports wellbeing, confidence, identity, and the development of both technical and transferable skills.

We also know that across the UK, young people do not have equal access to creativity, and that this is getting worse. Cuts to creative subjects in schools, long-term reductions in arts funding, and the loss of grassroots provision mean many young people are missing out.

The Young Creatives Commission is all about bringing together experts, case studies, existing literature and new evidence to propose policy solutions to fix this inequality.

The Commission will explore how we can move towards a system where the arts and creativity are just as valued for young people as sport is. We want to look at the areas in which sport has done well – clear progression pathways, strong local infrastructure, sustained investment and talent development – and see how similar approaches could work for arts and culture.

The Commission’s aim is to develop practical, ambitious recommendations that improve access, participation and progression into creative education and careers for young people across the UK.

The Commission is led by a group of experts including Roundhouse CEO and Artistic Director Marcus Davey CBE, Roundhouse alumni and BAFTA-winning writer and performer Jack Rooke, Actor Daniel Mays, Actor and Director Angela Griffin, DJ and Producer SHERELLE and Roundhouse Young Trustee Asher Cottrell, alongside leaders from the music, stage, sport and cultural sectors.
