What is the project about?
This is a practical music-making session with members of Nerija, who will share their ideas on improvising and creating music.
What will I get from taking part?
By the end of the project you will:
- Have improvised on your instrument
- Have learned at least one new song
- Have gained confidence in your ability to improvise and to create new music using your instrumental skills.
Who will be teaching the project?
Members of Nerija – the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year 2016. Nérija are a collective of up and coming, London-based musicians playing exciting and original music inspired by Jazz, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and South African Township.
Do I need any particular skills or experience to take part?
Improvisation is a skill you can learn and improve at any level of playing. For this workshop, you need to be confident that you can play at least eight notes on your instrument, and that you are comfortable enough with it to enjoy playing it for up to three hours. Beyond that, players at any level will benefit.
Is there anything I need to bring or wear?
You need to bring your instrument and the usual spare strings, reeds, leads, etc.
I’m not sure I can afford to take part…
If you need help to pay for things like project fees, transport or childcare, we can help. Find out how you can get support.
I have additional needs. Can I still take part?
We have places available on all our projects for individuals with additional needs. Get in touch so that we can discuss your requirements and do our best in supporting you.
This project is being delivered in partnership with the Camden Music Hub and is supported through funding from Arts Council England.
