Introduction to Studio Engineering

Ages 18-25

Roundhouse Studios

Apply by Fri 15 August, 9am

You might have experimented with making beats, recording podcasts, or playing with sound, but haven’t yet seen yourself as a studio engineer. Or maybe you already identify as one but lack hands-on experience in a professional setting.

This course will help you build real studio engineering skills – from setting up a room and using industry software to recording different performances and mastering live sessions – so you’re ready for a range of audio projects.

Without access to professional studios or mentoring, it’s hard to gain practical experience and confidence. That’s why this course combines workshops with a shadowing phase, letting you learn directly from experienced engineers and get a real feel for the work.

What do I get by taking part?

  • Practical experience setting up and running a professional studio
  • Hands-on skills with recording, mixing, and mastering audio
  • Confidence working with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs)
  • Insight into recording different styles, from podcasts to classical music
  • Real-world learning by shadowing experienced studio engineers
  • Networking opportunities within the music and audio production industry
  • A better understanding of studio engineering as a career path

Who is teaching the project?

Studio Engineers who are currently working in studios such as AIR Studios, Real World Studios and Guild Hall.

Do I need any particular skills or experience to take part?

Some experience in music production or engineering at any level is always useful, but not essential.
