Are you aged 18–25 and passionate about film, TV, or live streaming? Behind the Lens is a 15-week hands-on programme designed to help you turn your creativity into professional experience.
From the very start, you’ll dive into intensive technical training in camera, lighting, and sound, before moving on to editing, live broadcasting, and content creation. Along the way, you’ll develop skills in producing and show development, giving you a full understanding of how professional productions come together.
You’ll work on real productions, gaining practical experience across multiple platforms and learning about the many varied roles within the industry. By the end of the programme, you’ll have produced professional content, built a strong portfolio, and developed the confidence, knowledge, and industry connections to step into entry-level roles in film, TV, and live streaming.
Behind The Lens is supported by the Garfield Weston Foundation.
The programme has two parts: develop core technical skills and produce a live or captured show, then work in a team to create an unscripted live show with guidance from an industry producer. Graduates join the alumni cohort with access to further training, support finding career opportunities and mentoring on next steps.
The programme is led by experienced industry professionals and supported by guest filmmakers, technicians, and crew. Participants also benefit from the expertise of Roundhouse Broadcast & Digital staff, giving insight into both creative and technical aspects of live production.
We’re looking for young people with an interest in filmmaking or screen production. You might have some experience creating video, but it doesn’t matter what tools or equipment you’ve used.
You don’t need to be an expert – if you’re enthusiastic about film, TV, or live streaming, Behind the Lens is for you. The programme will teach all technical skills from a beginner level.
Apply online by completing our online application form before Monday 12 January, 11am.
