Support underrepresented voices and build the future of theatre.

Daniel Kaluuya has partnered Roundhouse to launch the Centre 59, a youth theatre company that supports young people aged 11-25 to develop their passion and skills in the performing arts.

Together, we are launching the Roundhouse Centre 59 Circle to support this new programme, in tribute to the legacy of Anna Scher – which was pivotal to Daniel and countless others – the Centre 59 Circle is about building the future.

“When I reflect on the start of my career, I had access to spaces like Anna Scher Theatre that were imperative to my development. With cuts to arts funding and youth centres, those same opportunities are disappearing. I want to change that.”
— Daniel Kaluuya

What is Centre 59?

Centre 59 is a youth theatre company based at the Roundhouse, founded by Daniel in 2023 as part of his role as Associate Artistic Director. It supports 11–25-year-olds to explore their talent, build confidence and develop skills in the performing arts – regardless of background or formal training.

From working in schools and local communities to delivering workshops with leading creatives like Evelyn Duah (who taught Daniel himself and also attended Anna Scher Theatre), Centre 59 is about breaking down barriers to the industry and creating a pipeline of bold new talent.

In April 2025, our first youth theatre company took to the stage with Sonder(s) as part of the Roundhouse Three Sixty Festival. This is just the beginning.

Why now?

The creative industries are losing talent before it ever has the chance to flourish. With shrinking arts provision in schools and widening inequality, too many young people are locked out of opportunities they deserve. We believe Centre 59 can be part of the solution – but only with your support.

About the Circle

We are looking for founding partners to give at £5,000, or a donation of your choice, to support our ambitions over the next few years. You’ll be part of a pioneering group, championing the power of youth-led performance, and helping build an infrastructure that will shape the future of theatre.
