With a reimagined ballet, a brand-new musical and a debut poetry collection, it’s an exciting time for some of the writers and performers who have participated in our youth programmes. Here are just a few of the epic projects our alumni are working on:
⌚ Kate Ireland’s show Golden Time (And Other Behavioural Management Strategies) has received rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe, including four stars from the Guardian and Theatre Weekly. A Roundhouse Resident Artist in 2023/24, Kate is bringing the ‘heart-opening gem of a solo show’ (Theatre Weekly) back to the Roundhouse in October as part of our upcoming Studio Theatre Season.
🩰 Jack Sears (Roundhouse Resident Artist 2018/19) has also just wrapped up a run at Edinburgh Fringe with his show Giselle: Remix, a radical queer reimagining of the classical ballet. The ‘provocative, wild and uplifting’ (The Stage) show is produced by fellow alumni the Project People, who participated in the Roundhouse Creative Business Accelerator programme in 2024, winning the Audience Vote Prize at the final pitch night.
📢 Beyond Edinburgh, playwright and former Roundhouse Resident Artist Urielle Klein-Mekongo’s RnB and reggae-infused musical Black Power Desk premieres on 1 September at Brixton House. The production is set in 1970s London and inspired by the covert Black Power Desk operations of New Scotland Yard. After its run at Brixton House, the show will head off on an exciting tour to Warwick Arts Centre, the Lowry and Birmingham Hippodrome.
🎠 Also coming up in September is the release of poet Georgie Jones’ debut collection And The World Spins Anyway. Described as a love letter to real life and an antidote to the highlight reel that is social media, the book is out on 12 September.
