150 walkers have put their feet on the line to raise an incredible, record-breaking £577,000 in support of the Roundhouse’s vital youth programme.
On Saturday 7 June, staff and supporters of the Roundhouse walked 26 miles over twelve hours through the Chiltern Hills in a monumental fundraising effort to support the UK’s leading independent creative powerhouse. The trekkers were led by Roundhouse Chair Simon Turner and Inflexion, who had the largest team and match funding from the Inflexion Foundation.
The Roundhouse has previously raised £1.3million through annual Challenge Events since 2020, but this year’s was the most successful yet – more than doubling its original target and ensuring that thousands of young people will continue to receive affordable access to creative opportunities.
Alongside welcoming more than 330,000 audience members to gigs, shows and events, the Roundhouse’s thriving youth programme engages with over 11,000 young people each year, providing affordable opportunities for ages 11-30 in music, media, performing arts and professional development.
These unique opportunities for young people would not be possible without the Roundhouse’s loyal supporters, including Inflexion, Wiggin, Spotify, AshGrove Capital, Glass Half Full Productions, The Foundation, World Odyssey and CHK Foundation.
Antonia Kazmeier, Roundhouse Young Trustee and walker, said: “The Chiltern’s trek was an incredible experience, it was definitely a challenge, but thanks to the great company along the way it was really enjoyable and we got each other through the rainy lows of the day! It was also special to see so many people show up for the Roundhouse, as it has been a really important place for me as a creative and as a young person, where I have felt empowered to explore my creativity. I’m happy that with the funds raised more people will be able to get the support and opportunities the Roundhouse offers!”
Marcus Davey, Roundhouse CEO and Artistic Director, said “There was a great, elevating sense of joy on the day, because we all knew that every step we took we were funding a young person to take part in the incredible offerings at the Roundhouse. I am so proud of all 150 walkers who took part, and so thankful that we have such an incredible group of supporters.”
Simon Turner, Managing Partner at Inflexion and Chair at the Roundhouse, said: “The trek was a really tough day, but so rewarding because we all knew that we were doing it for a reason – that we care about the charity, we care about the purpose, we care about the Roundhouse. I’m looking forward to seeing the amazing work created by the talented young people who engage with the Roundhouse thanks to this record-breaking fundraising effort.”
