Take Your Music Production & Engineering Skills to the Next Level

Are you an aspiring music producer, audio editor, or sound engineer ready to step inside a professional studio environment? If you already have some music production or audio engineering experience under your belt but want to master the professional tools of the trade, the Studio 101 Masterclass Series is for you.

Led by industry pros from Roundhouse Studios, this series of specialised, hands-on modules will give you the confidence and technical know-how to navigate a world-class recording space.

Key Information

  • When: Wednesdays, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Cost: £10 to £15 per course (pay if selected)
  • How it works: We have one simple application form. You can apply for just one module, or pick and choose multiple courses that match your goals.
  • Experience Level: This series is designed for young creatives who already have a foundational understanding of music production, recording, or mixing and want to elevate their skills.
  • Application Deadline: Apply by Friday 14 August at 10am

Choose Your Masterclasses

1. Signal Flow: Routing with Patch Bays & Consoles

Dates: Wednesdays, 2 – 16 September 

Price: £10 for the course

Demystify the heart of the recording studio. This module follows the journey of an audio signal, teaching you how to route sound efficiently around a professional space. You will dive deep into patch bays, large-format consoles, and complex studio setups.

  • What you’ll cover:
    • Routing with Patch Bays & Consoles
    • Microphones & Monitoring (setting up monitor mixes and FX sends)
    • Reamping and External FX Processing
  • Tutor: Finn Coomarasamy – Avid Certified Pro Tools Specialist and engineer at Roundhouse Studios.

2. The Recording Process

Dates: Wednesdays, 30 September – 21 October

Price: £15 for the course

Stop guessing and start capturing pristine audio. This module breaks down the art of tracking both acoustic and electric instruments, giving you the tools to make the best sonic decisions for your projects.

  • What you’ll cover:
    • Recording Acoustic Instruments: Drums
    • Recording Acoustic Instruments: Piano & Guitars
    • Recording Electric Instruments: Electric Guitars & Bass
    • Recording Electric Instruments: Synths & E-Pianos
  • Tutor: Alejandro Padilla – Professional audio engineer at Roundhouse Studios.

3. Vocal Production

Dates: Wednesdays, 11 – 18 November

Price: £10 for the course

Whether you work with singers, rappers, spoken-word artists, podcasters, or audiobook voice actors, capturing the human voice requires a unique skillset. This deep-dive focuses on the art of recording, editing, and mixing vocals.

  • What you’ll cover:
    • Vocal Recording in Practice (working with a live session singer)
    • Vocal Recording: Editing & Mixing techniques
  • Tutor: Joy Stacey – Professional audio engineer at Roundhouse Studios.

4. Mixing Essentials

Dates: Wednesdays, 25 November – 9 December

Price: £10 for the course

The mixing process can feel daunting at first glance. This module breaks it down into a clear, step-by-step roadmap, helping you approach your mixes with confidence and creative intent. Develop your understanding of how to use EQ, compression and other mixing tools, to improve your mixes.

  • What you’ll cover:
    • Mixing Essentials: EQ & Compression
    • Mixing Essentials: FX & Intro to group mixing sessions
    • Group Mixing Class & Playback Session
  • Tutor: Ajinkya ‘AJ’ Patil – Professional mix engineer at Roundhouse Studios.
