In the Round Festival welcomes a special double-bill performance in one night as 16-piece supergroup, Balimaya and MOBO-nominated saxophonist, Camilla George perform a bespoke set.

Balimaya Project

The sound of West African folkore, bustling jazz and traditional repertoire collide in the form of 16-piece supergroup, Balimaya Project. Meaning the essence of kinship in the Mandé people’s Maninka language, the word Balimaya articulates a family model not limited to blood relations, but of a shared history and experience, of friendship and community.

These concepts come to life in the all-male ensemble, made up of players across UK’s intricately entwined musical landscape from Afrobeats and jazz to UK rap. Expect a formidable live set with blazing crescendos from this tight-knit brotherhood.

Camilla George

Dubbed “The Golden Girl of Jazz”, Camilla George follows the overflow with her own unique fusion of Western and African music.

Following the success of joining the award-winning band, Jazz Jamaica and performing with Ernest Ranglin at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, saxophonist Camilla George is now a firm fixture on the new London Jazz scene. Her music is a hypnotizing blend of Afrofuturism, hip hop and jazz, flecked with a politically-minded influence and heavy links to African history.
