2016 marks the 40th anniversary of punk’s incendiary rise, the moment the artform came roaring up from the streets of London to tear through culture across the world.
To celebrate this benchmark and explore the subculture’s continued legacy and future, we’ve curated this special event, The Punk Weekender; a series of live shows, film screenings and panel discussions, inspired by the theme of ‘what has punk ever done for us?’
With a strong emphasis on supporting the next generation of punk bands, the weekend’s focus lies with ten emerging artists.
Saturday 9th July will see False Heads, Birdsong, Molasses, The Antiseptics, BullyBones, Mystified, Drones, Thee Jezebels, Screech Bats and a much-anticipated headline show from riotous noise-punk trio Youth Man as they go head to head on the Dr. Martens Stage in the venue’s Main Space. With a chaotic, shrieking, wrecking-ball of a live show, this performance looks likely to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting new bands in the country.
In addition to the music, we’re hosting a punk record fair, ‘zine fair, food stalls and more in the Main Space so gig-goers can fully immerse themselves in the punk festival atmosphere.
Punk Weekender is part of Punk London, a year of events, gigs, films, talks and exhibits celebrating 40 years of punk heritage and influence in London.
