What difference can theatre make?
This event will bring together arts practitioners and activists including Natalia Kaliada, co founder of Belarus Free Theatre, and Tobasi Ahmad of The Freedom Theatre in Palestine, to discuss theatre as a tool for resistance.
As theatre is being used as a form of resistance in countries under occupation around the world, the panel will discuss and ask questions about its successes and failures, including
- The power of art in fighting for change
- Armed resistance vs cultural resistance
- The future for young people in Palestine
- How art has changed lives for young people in Jenin refugee camp
After the panel there will be a screening of short films exploring theatre made in these complex politcal settings including Journey of a Freedom Fighter, amongst others.
As part of this event there will be spoken word performances from Roundhouse young poets.
This event is for anyone who is interested in what happens when art and activism combines.
