Neruda in the Round

Neruda in the Round

19 Oct 2010 / Studio Theatre

An evening dedicated to exploring the life of the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, examining his current relevance, and commemorating – with unique film and recording - his historic Roundhouse recital of 40 years ago.

This event includes fascinating insights and anecdotes by Adam Feinstein - Neruda’s acclaimed biographer – together with recollections of Neruda by his friend, and leading British expert on his poetry, Dr. Robert Pring-Mill, filmed shortly before his death in 2005.

Readings of Neruda’s poems are provided by (amongst others) Mary Gifford-Brown, Lucy Tregear and Alfredo Cordal, with additional extracts of Neruda himself reading poems filmed and recorded at the Roundhouse 40 years ago.

The evening will be hosted by Dominic Moran - Faculty Lecturer and Tutor in Spanish at Christ Church College, Oxford, who has published an edition of Neruda’s 20 Love Poems and a Song of Despair (Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada)and a short literary biography of the poet.
