Kevin Mark Trail, singer and frontman of Mike Skinner’s The Streets, will host a showcase of emerging talent at the Roundhouse as part of Summer Rising. Following the success of his recent unplugged performance in April, Kevin will headline a line-up of incredible new talent, including Bristol soul singer Ruth Royall, ‘Vixen on the Violin’ Anna Phoebe, London singer-songwriter JJSoulx and a special appearance from spoken word poet Toby De Angeli.

21 year old Ruth Royall is a soul singer from Bristol, attributing her sound to the likes of Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Billie Holiday. Her jazz style is coincided with her smooth, deep and enchanting voice.

Anna Phoebe has been hailed a ‘vixen of the violin,’ with her combination of classical, rock and gypsy influences with the likes of Steven Tyler and Paul Rodgers. Her third solo album is due to be released later this year after working with a host of London-based artists to create an album that showcases her wide range of styles.

Singer-songwriter JJ Soulx flows soulfully and poetically with lyrically conscious music and a tone that sits neatly between Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. The London based soul singer is releasing her debut EP this year, and has already picked up airplay on BBC R1, 1Xtra and Rinse FM.

Toby De Angeli is a London based spoken word poet rising up from the Roundhouse Poetry Collective and Associate Artist, Elephant. His love for words and storytelling has lead him to perform at festivals across the UK including Bestival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as in Poland and Germany.

Summer Rising is an offshoot of the Roundhouse Rising brand, the emerging talent arm of Camden’s legendary venue.  Roundhouse Rising is a series of monthly events which culminate in an annual festival in February celebrating the best in up-and-coming talent. Previous Rising artists include Maverick Sabre, Stornaway, Lady Leshurr, Lovelle, The History of Apple Pie and many more. Summer 2013 will see a number of Rising shows so watch this space for details.
