Kevin Mark Trail

2 Nov 2012 / Studio Theatre

Kevin Mark Trail front man and vocalist of Mike Skinners "The Streets" Launches his second Album ,Hope Star, Friday 2 November in the Studio Theatre at the Roundhouse. He plays songs from  the album for the first time with a live band.
Now is a new dawn, the new album “Hope Star” is born. Hope Star is exactly what it says on the packet. An album which is humorous, loving, biographical, light heart but at the same time deep, meaningful, and challenges the boundaries of commercial music. It’s themes range from asking a girl out on a first date “what do you like to eat on Fridays” to global themes relating to mankind, Love, family values and self-realization. The album seamlessly brings together heart felt Ballads like “Lullaby”, to Dance/Indie tracks “Civilization” It touches on Hip Hop/rock with “Love Hard” then greets us with the medieval Casanova in the song “Beautiful Stranger” It’s lyrical content is unique thought provoking but accessible. Most of the album Orchestration has been recorded live, with strings sections, Rock guitars, Reggae organs, live drums and bass all thrown into one pot to create the perfect combination
Like Kevin, this album has already travelled the world first being born in London/Jamaica. While touring New Zealand Trail added additional instrumentation with Nathan Haines and Alan Brown. Kevin then travelled back to London, continuing recording in The Streets studio. Hope Star features Basement Jaxx vocalists Sharlene Hector, Vula Malinga and Plan B vocalist La Donna Peters. The album was mixed and mastered in New Zealand at Kog Studios by Chris Chetland. Over the past few years Kevin has travelled back and forth to New Zealand developing a relationship with its music, land and people.
Hope Star has been written, and produced by Kevin Mark Trail, it is truly a global album, in it form and creation. The musical influences range from Hip-Hop, Soul, folk, Rock, Reggae, to Classical. He draws on inspirations as diverse as Bob Marley to Kate Bush. Trail is continuing on his path as an artist speaking on behalf of his generation, pushing the boundaries. Just as the title track Hope star states “In the night I see a star” this album is a light in the dark.
