Denise presents 'Camden Town'

Denise presents 'Camden Town'

17 Mar 2013 / Studio Theatre

Denise performs debut of 'Camden Town' album at Roundhouse Studio Theatre

Born in New York City, Denise has been living and working in Camden since 2000, where her music has evolved from the early contemporary blues and folk influences she grew up with - to reflect the rich and vibrant sound she now creates from her adopted urban home - culminating in the release of her latest studio album, Camden Town.

Recorded at her Camden Studio, Alice's Loft Music Denise's latest album reveals an extraordinary range of talent, skill and emotion - from her first track Amy -a soaring, Latin fuelled homage to fellow artist and resident Amy Winehouse - followed by the eponymous Camden Town, evoking the district's compelling nightlife with its penetrating lyrics and brooding bass line.

'What I wanted was to make 'Camden Town' an album that brought together all of sounds, energy and people that I have respected and worked with and yet keep the truth and integrity that inspires my work. In doing so, I was able to bring 44 musicians together to help me record the album - musicians from all over the world.'

Her stage performances with legendary pianist, Ellis Larkins at The Carnegie Tavern and The Village Vanguard in NYC became the launchpad for her singing career. It was when Denise moved to New Orleans that she really began to build her reputation as a talented 'must see' artist on the down-town New Orleans music scene - recording three of her albums there.

'I was captivated by the intensity and visual allure of New Orleans - the sweet magic will get in - then your blood will begin to be addicted to that sweetness down beneath your skin. It filled my head with a sweet magnolia scent' [taken from Euston/Crazy Magnolia], and then gave me a slow and unfolding story that I couldn't help but sing.'

Denise will be performing with her 10 piece band including strings, percussion bass and drums.
