Fuel at the Roundhouse
Melanie Wilson and Fuel present Autobiographer (in development)
Combining the highly crafted poly-vocal textures of a live chorus with a richly detailed soundtrack, this poetic sound work will be a tender investigation into the condition of dementia. Through the piece, Melanie Wilson will explore the many voices of one character, of one condition - the connections between the fractured brain and fractured narrative - to imagine the quality and experience of being in the middle of a demented brain. We’d like you to join us for this first public outing of the new ideas for the show which will premiere in autumn 2011.
Melanie Wilson is a Supported Artist at BAC in London, for whom she is an active artist, teacher and director. Her most recent solo show, Iris Brunette – where twenty people enter the intimate, sound filled landscape of a post apocalyptic city devastated by war – received huge critical acclaim in 2009, and completed a successful UK autumn tour. Her other solo show, Simple Girl, received similar plaudits at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2007 where she was nominated for Best Female Performer and Spirit of the Fringe Awards at the Dublin Fringe Festival. Melanie Wilson’s shows create immersive soundscape that transport audiences to other worlds and time frames, delivering wholly new experiences of live performance. She has collaborated with Chris Goode in ...Sisters, Boilerhouse in Drenched (nominated in Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for Best Actress in a visiting company), and with The Clod Ensemble, Punchdrunk, Shunt and Rotozaza.
