Living My Music - State of Play

State of Play "Living My Music" - investigation, animation and celebration

State of Play was a festival style conference to celebrate and explore music education today. Roundhouse Studios created a multi media presentation for the main arena, written and directed by Didi Hopkins, which animated the findings of our in depth Insight Research commissioned as part of our Pathfinder Programme to explore how young people are 'Living their Music'.

Welcome to the roundhouse
wherever you've come from, whatever your route

whatever your heart song
we're all on a journey
and this is a little stopping place

the roundhouse commissioned research
into how young people live their music
and their role in the cycle
of consume, create, perform.

everything you see and hear today is created by us - we are the authors - the filming, the editing, the dance,
the actions, the words and of course the music that is all around us
all of our lives from the beginning to the end
our rhythm,
our pulse
our passion
and our hearts beat ... like DNA - it's what makes you tick

so wel/come inside - our minds, our roots, our hearts and other parts , - into our music
ladies and gentlemen
sit back, breathe out, trust the inspiration

and, ...if you are sitting comfortably
then - we shall begin

I have some talent
some ability
all my childhood i heard great music
i used to run along hopping and skipping and humming
i love bach's gigue but my desert island discs are all not classical

music is inside me
above and below me
all around me

it is my interior makeup
like a religion
and i have to work with it in a spiritual way
and produce, in a selfless way, the beauty of music

what breath connects greek chorus to choir?
orators to oratorios
opera to theatre
my song to this speech
me to the iambic pentameter
the beat above which i live and improvise?

what keeps me alive?
