Lyn Connolly

Lyn has wanted to be a journalist for as long as she can remember. She'd while away the hours at school doodling spreads and making up interview questions before dissing the ones in Kerrang! out of sheer jealousy. With a love of music and passion for all things rock and roll, her writing career began aged 19 when her first printed article was published in Terrorizer. She has been the Sub Editor of Roundhouse's own magazine Redtop since its inception in 2008.

Her passion for music has taken her across the world; globe trotting from country to country, festival to festival, bar to bar. This passion, along with her flair for writing and attention to detail, has led to Lyn heading up the music section for Redtop Online in 2010 and taking on the role of Editor earlier this month.

And ever keen to take on a challenge, Lyn has also produced a range of live events, from independent music festival Uxfest to regional Oxjam shows and the highly successful Turning Point Festival here at the Roundhouse in 2010.

Her challenge this year is radio, and having successfully produced and presented a series of special episodes for Redtop Radio she now has her own show The Rock Residency, which you can hear every Thursday at 5pm on Roundhouse Radio. Alas she still finds working with radio a tad scary, and apparently two years' experience DJ-ing to hordes of metallers up and down the country don't count for nothin'. Mm-hm.

Her developing career as a freelance journalist entwines her three main loves: photography, writing and live music. By night you’ll find her at any number of gigs around town, whether it’s down in the photo pit capturing the action or getting in the Jagers at the bar.

Lyn is also a member of RYAB, the Roundhouse Youth Advisory Board, where she holds the post of Reporting Officer. She says:

“I first came to the Roundhouse in 2008 when I heard about Redtop Magazine. It was through starting my Arts Award here three years later I heard about RYAB and was keen to get involved. My role involves working with Studios members to document their progress and providing feedback to the Board of Directors.

Choosing my best Roundhouse experience is a tough one! I'd have to say... somewhere between hosting my own photography exhibition here last year, the first Redtop cover shoot, standing side of stage with Mastodon just before their set and meeting up with Europe after theirs to take them across the road to jam out The Final Countdown with the local covers band!”
