On Sunday 1 July, Wiz Khalifa headlined the Roundhouse in what was his first show in London since his 2015 performance with ASAP Rocky. Music writer and photographer Nathalie gives us the run-down of the night…
Wiz steps on the stage to face an ecstatic crowd and that feeling is carried all through the night. The mixtape Kush and OJ, now an absolute classic, was released nearly 8 years ago, so it’s not surprise that the crowd is able to scream back every word.
Through hits like ‘Mesmerized’, ‘In the Cut’ and ‘Black & Yellow’, Wiz knows how to please his crowd and keeps everyone entertained, making us all forget that it is a Sunday night. But it isn’t only through the songs that Wiz interacts with his fans, almost like a mantra, for every “Taylor”, the crowd shouts “Gang” and still now, 24 hours later if someone said Taylor … I’d say gang.
There is not a single moment in which Wiz looks out to the crowd and does not smile, clearly grateful and happy to be savouring the moment. A feeling of happiness felt by all the fans that leave the venue on a high with ‘Young, Wild & Free’ and Wiz promising through his hit feature with Charlie Puth ‘See you again’ that he’ll be back for more.
