The Roundhouse Events Team wins again - Besma Awards 2007
The Roundhouse is delighted to announce that three Event Managers were recognised for their excellence as sales professionals at the 2007 BESMA awards this month.
Becky Jesse won ‘New Sales Professional of the Year’ followed by Marietjie Grose as ‘Runner-up Sales Professional of the Year’ and Fiona Price who won the ‘Sales Professional of the Year’.
The Roundhouse were finalists in two other categories, Sales & Marketing Director and Sales & Marketing Team of the year.
Susan Stuart, Head of Events said, “We had a fantastic evening at the awards dinner and for all Event Managers to be recognised so highly is a real achievement. I am incredibly proud of them”. The Roundhouse Events Team beat stiff competition from sales professionals from NatWest, AXA and npower amongst others. Stuart continues, “The Event Managers work very closely with their clients and I believe this gives them the edge over other sales staff.
They become an extension of the client’s team of experts. This approach has enabled us to host some of the industry’s biggest events including The Elle Style Awards, the London 2012 Olympic brand launch and the BIFA’s.” I feel sure that this recognition will encourage more sales professionals from the hospitality industry to enter into the awards in the future and that ultimately standards will increase”. The Roundhouse, a historically renowned venue and a Grade II* listed building reopened in June 2006 following a complete restoration. The £30m redevelopment incorporated universally accessible facilities for visitors and new production facilities for event organisers, bringing the building back to life as a world class venue.

Roundhouse wins ‘Event Awards 2007 - Live Event Venue of the Year’.
The Event Magazine’s 10th anniversary awards dinner took place recently at the Natural History Museum where the best in the business of experiential marketing, live event, communication and brand experience companies met to celebrate the achievements’ of their peers.
The Roundhouse was awarded the ‘Live Event Venue of the Year’ sponsored by Confex Group. Duncan Reid, Event Director of Confex presented the coveted Gold award to Susan Stuart Head of Events and Marietjie Grose Event Manager.
Since reopening in 2006, the Roundhouse has hosted numerous high profile events including the BT Digital Music Awards, with over 1,000 people in attendance. Working closely with the organisers Ballistic Events, media spaces and links with the Roundhouse Studios were created to accommodate client needs.
The Roundhouse has also pushed the boundaries to host the inaugural Vodafone Live Music Awards. It was broadcast on Channel 4 with a repeat on E4.
“We are absolutely delighted to have won this award. Over the last year we have been host to a diverse spread of B2B and B2C events ranging from the BT DMA’s and Vodafone Live Music Awards to car launches, global conferences and brand launches.” said Susan Stuart, Head of Events. “With our restriction of accommodating only 35 events each year we feel that this makes our offer even more exclusive. It gives a message that the Roundhouse is more than just a venue and that the events team here have an understanding of what adds value to an event and are prepared to work in partnership with organisers who work with us”.
The Roundhouse a Grade II listed building, reopened in June 2006 following a £30m redevelopment. This incorporated universally accessible facilities for visitors and new production facilities for event organisors, bringing the building back to life as a world class venue.
Other winners included Imagination for the VJ area of Ford Motor Company’s stand at the Geneva Autoshow – Best exhibition Feature Area and Sledge for the ‘fourth stage’ at the O2 Wireless Festival – Most effective Event Activity (IT/Telecommunications).
Roundhouse
Wins RSVP Award
The Roundhouse is delighted to announce our Events Team has been voted In-House Events
(Venue) of the year at the RSVP Awards 2007. The Roundhouse was also highly commended in the categories Most Creative Use
of a Blank Canvas Space and Most Creative Use of a Cultural or Historic Venue. The RSVP Awards 2007, the first of its kind,
was held last week at Fulham Palace. Over 20 industry awards were being given out to the cream of the industry’s suppliers
at the awards dinner.

working under extreme pressures. Challenges faced by the team in their first year included complex security challenges for
the Gift of Music celebrations with the Isreali Ambassador in attendance and Michael Jordan at the 21st birthday
celebrations for sports brand Nike plus the first live televised event at the Roundhouse – Royal Institute of British
Architect – Stirling Prize dinner 2007.
AEO Award
We are happy to announce
that the Roundhouse is the proud winner of the AEO Excellence Awards 07 for the Venue Facilities – Development and Innovation,
sponsored by CMP Information. The Roundhouse Events Team collected the Award at the gala lunch on 14 June at Old Billingsgate,
London. The occasion commended the achievements of leading professionals, across 17 categories, and was followed by a fantastic
party.
This Award acknowledged the dynamic design of the £30m refurbishment, relaunching the Roundhouse last
June as a cutting edge production space but still loyal to the original structure and still boasting the stunning features
of the 1846 Grade II* listed building. The judges were impressed by the Roundhouse’s ‘close involvement with the
local community’ and picked the Roundhouse as ‘Winner’ for the ‘imaginative and innovative use of
a London landmark which has the wow factor’.
Roundhouse Building Awards - RIBA and Europa Nostra
The Roundhouse has won the Riba/English Heritage London Special Award for a building in a historic context
plus a RIBA London region award, to add to our coveted Europa Nostra heritage prize which we gained in May this year.
The transformation of the Roundhouse was led by the Roundhouse Trust, working with architects John McAslan + Partners.
Mark Cannata, head of the practice’s Historic Buildings Unit, said the RIBA award “has put the cap on a project
of great complexity in terms of funding, conservation and new architectural interventions. We’re particularly pleased
to have revealed more original fabric, such as the remarkable radial undercroft.”
The reinvention of the
Roundhouse took nine years and cost approximately £30m. Cannata emphasised that technical and programmatic improvements
to the building had not only increased its capacity and versatility but provided dedicated creative facilities for young people
in Camden. “Our interventions were strictly subject to a sustainability strategy,” he added. “Attendance
levels are consistently high, and the success of the revived Roundhouse has clearly triggered new development in the immediate
area.”
‘John McAslan has done a wonderful design with great sympathy for the fact that we were working
with a famous iron building. It is very beautiful and fi t for its new use’
Torquil Norman CBE, Chairman, The Norman
Trust, 2006
‘It’s a fantastic venue. If it can be revived for other generations to enjoy then it’s
a great thing.’
Bob Geldof, Roundhouse Ambassador
Camden Building Quality Awards
We
are delighted to be the Winners for Large Commercial Venue in the Camden Building Quality Awards 2007, nominated
by John Wiles. The Roundhouse is a Grade II* listed building which was remodelled to provide a flexible performance venue
incorporating the Roundhouse Studios a space to create for young people. The most significant alterations were to
the circular roof to improve the structural stability, sound insulation and thermal efficiency. A floating roof was added
to the top of the existing structure, filled with acoustic panelling and covered in slate roofing to create an acoustic and
structural roof for modern day use.
The spectacular refurbishment demonstrates how listing buildings can be significantly
improved in line with the current building regulations without affecting thier historical significance.
