As an XFM DJ, Lliana is passionate about radio and new music – so much so that she has come in recently to share that passion with a group of Roundhouse Radio producers and presenters.
The Roundhouse is a really special venue, there’s just so much music heritage here. When you step inside you can feel that energy all around you, it’s like you’re dipping into a huge pool of musical history. The 11-25s programme is incredible – it helps young people develop their skills in art, music, radio and circus. I think it’s so important to give them these opportunities to express themselves and flourish.

At the Roundhouse, young artists, whoever they are and wherever they’re from, are given all they need to develop and grow into the artist they want to be. I’ve had a relationship with the Roundhouse for many years; I performed there way back in the seventies. I love the building, the programming, and it’s my local, but what keeps me involved are the opportunities the Roundhouse gives to young people. They can walk into that iconic building and feel they belong. They can be curious, creative, bold, challenged and supported. I believe passionately in giving young people those experiences and I’m very proud to be a Roundhouse Ambassador.

Over the years I’ve enjoyed so many different performances and shows at the Roundhouse. A lot of people don’t realise when they’re watching a show in the stunning Main Space that just beneath their feet are state-of-the-art studios where talented young people can learn, share and gain new skills. One of the things I admire most about the Roundhouse is its integrity and loyalty to the community and how it helps and supports young people who need opportunities. I feel I have a personal attachment to this beautiful building and I am hugely grateful that I have the opportunity to be part of it in some capacity.

As a teenager I was extremely lucky to be a member of the Central Television Workshop which offered young creative people a fantastic professional start in life. The Roundhouse is a cause close to my heart as it provides a similar platform for people to learn, be inspired, express themselves, nurture their talent and grow confident with their peers whilst remaining grounded at the same time. I’m so grateful for the brilliant opportunities I received, and that’s why I’m honoured to be an Ambassador for the Roundhouse and to chair this year’s charity gala and committee to help raise funds for the trust.
